With the close of summer, Congregation Beth Elohim has
been operating with the throttle open. In addition to preparations for the High
Holy Days, Sukkot and Simchat Torah, our Yachad, ECC and After School programs
are operating near full capacity.
The renovation project in the Temple House is moving
ahead on schedule, and most of the scaffolding should be down by Sukkot. Please
take a moment to admire the beautiful facade as it is uncovered—it glows like
Jerusalem stone. There is still a bit of work remaining, part of which will be
the installation of paving stones on the roof. This lays the foundation to
think about other uses for our roof space in the future.
President Kasakove, Rabbi Bachman and I had a productive
meeting with Jack Nayer, president of the Garfield Place Block Association,
where we brought him up to speed on our activities and future plans, and
discussed issues of concern to our neighbors. Double parking on Garfield Place
during morning drop-off and pick-up on Garfield Place is a serious area of
concern because it could impede access by emergency vehicles. To address this
problem, we've opened our entrance on 8th Avenue during morning drop-off and
afternoon pick-up. We encourage those of you who use cars to drop off and pick
up your children to use the convenient 8th Avenue entrance. If you still use
the Garfield Place entrance, please keep the time you double park to a minimum.
May you and yours be sealed in the Book of Life for a
year full of blessings.
