Update Memo of April 7th
April 7, 2008
1—All demolition work on the project was stopped last week, but this work needs to be completed as soon as possible.
2—When most of the children are out of the building during spring break (April 14-25), the contractor will use the time to complete as much of the remaining demolition work as possible. The after-school children will not be on the 4th floor during this time. On April 26 or 27, an outside, qualified, maintenance crew will thoroughly clean all classrooms. On April 27 teachers will reset the furniture in the classrooms so that everything will be ready for the children’s return on Monday, April 28.
3— A decision will be made this week to choose one of three environmental engineering firms to conduct air quality tests when the classrooms are empty during spring break.
4—We have checked our contractors’ client list and confirmed they have experience working in school environments. Their clients include Xavier High School, St. Peter’s Church, the Public Theater and Marymount Convent in Tarrytown.
5—Our architects are screening potential candidates for the project manager position.
6— We are seeking alternative space to move students off the 4th floor until construction is completed. We are making progress on obtaining the necessary permissions to use the classroom space around the Rotunda in the Sanctuary building.
7—We've ordered new commercial quality Hepa-vacs for our maintenance staff to use during routine cleanings, as an added precaution.
