Update Memo of May 2nd
We are grateful for the two weeks of sunny weather we enjoyed over the spring break. Besides experiencing a wonderful taste of spring, our contractor, PCF State, was happy he was able to complete all of the demolition tasks he had scheduled by Friday morning, April 25. Over the weekend, we had full complements of cleaning crews making the classrooms ready for use by Monday. Following the cleanup on Sunday evening, Precision Environmental conducted a Limited Indoor Air Quality Assessment (LIAQ) within the Temple House. At the time of the visual inspection on April 27, 2008, Precision found/observed the following:
-
-
* No aberrant odors were detected other than the odors associated with the cleaning solutions used;
-
* Readily accessible surfaces, such as floors, walls, window sills desks, etc., within the areas of concern were cleaned and free of any visible construction related dust/debris;
-
* Air purifying stand alone units were operational in some rooms;
-
* Airborne Particulate Matter concentrations were within guidelines.
Precision will be working with the contractor and our maintenance crews to ensure the effectiveness of dust engineering controls and to maintain all areas in question are clean and free of any visible dust. Ongoing, we will make sure that the integrity of our window barriers is not compromised. We are also assessing and addressing ventilation issues in the building. On Friday, May 2, the contractor is planning to demolish the small bulkhead roof (5th floor) and install a vapor barrier. We are reviewing the available options for the after-school programs that are using Temple House classrooms. We do not expect that this work will affect the ECC children in this building. We’ve interviewed two candidates for the project manager position, and we expect to make a hiring decision by the end of next week. Lower day camp, which is classroom based, will be housed in the Rotunda area (except for use of the pool in the Temple House). The number of campers for lower day camp has been set at 103, and most places have been filled, though there are still some limited weeks available. Upper and travel day camp, who spend most of their days outside, will continue in the Temple House. Enrollment to date in the Travel and upper day camps has been robust, but there are still spaces available.
