Recommendations for the Nominating Committee | Print |  E-mail
Dear Fellow Congregant,

The Board of Trustees of our Congregation has appointed the undersigned to be the 2008 Nominating Committee for the important task of nominating candidates for the Board of Trustees and Officers of the Congregation.

Although it is an honor to serve on the Board of Trustees, Board members contribute significant time and effort.  It is the governing body of the Congregation and is responsible for establishing and implementing Congregational policy.  The success of our Congregation is in large part dependent upon the dedication and contributions of its Board members and Officers.

While the Nominating Committee is made up of a cross-section of the Congregation, we cannot know everyone who has contributed to the Congregation and deserves our consideration as a possible nominee.  We, therefore, ask you, as a member of this Congregation, to submit to us for our consideration names of members in good standing whom you would recommend.  Please remember that the Committee usually nominates members who have demonstrated active participation in the work of the synagogue or have otherwise evidenced commitment to the Congregation or to the larger universe of Judaism, as well as those whose special skills or experience may be particularly useful to the Congregation.  To aid in our consideration, we have included a questionnaire about the candidate.

Feel free to suggest yourself for consideration.  If you do, please answer questions 3-6 of the questionnaire.

Your recommendations should be in writing, addressed to the Nominating Committee at the Temple House or e-mailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and arrive by February 1, 2008

Two years ago, the congregation amended its by-laws to reduce the size of our Board from sixty to thirty-six members using a three year phase-in period and to provide for term limits.  This is the second year of the phase-in. Thus, this class will have twelve members. All members of the class whose term is expiring and are not term-limited are contacted by the Nominating Committee to ask if they are willing to stand for re-election.   We are currently in the process of determining the number of open slots in the class whose term in about to finish.  In each class, some Board members leave and some members stand for re-election.  Therefore, only part of the group up for election this year will be new nominees.

We are not telling you this to limit your submission of names, but only to indicate that there are reasons why the Committee may not be able to nominate as many new and able candidates for the Board as it would like.  Because the number of open slots is limited, all qualified candidates will not be able to be nominated.  However, this is not a reflection on their qualifications.  Also, if you suggested someone last year and they were not nominated, feel free to do so again.  The Nominating Committee will also be considering candidates proposed but not nominated last year, but we will need an update on their activities.

The Executive Committee is composed of seven officers who are elected for a one year term by the Congregation, with a five year term limit.  All officers are also contacted by the Nominating Committee and asked if they wish to stand for re-election.  We are currently in the process of determining the number of open slots in the class whose term is about to finish.  We may have some openings for officers this year.  Only members of the Board of Trustees may be nominated to serve as an officer.

It is only with your input that the Nominating Committee can complete its task.  We look forward to receiving your recommendations.

Sincerely,

Nominating Committee
