Needs: Volunteers to provide services and companionship to patients, administrative assistance, food service and receptionists for the hospital.


Commitment: At least 100 hours, no less than four hours a week for a minimum of six months, plus an orientation and training session
Minimum Age: 16

This program, sponsored by the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, helps Russian émigrés from the former Soviet Union improve their language skills and prepare for the workforce and US citizenship.

Needs: Volunteers to be telephone conversational partners; calls are made from the volunteer’s home or office.

Commitment: 5 to 15 minute phone calls, three times a week, for three months
Minimum age: 18

Provides about 140 Park Slope residents, 60 years or older, with educational, cultural and social programs and support services.

Needs: Volunteers to socialize with active seniors, assist with activities  
Help with arts and crafts Thursday or Friday mornings

Commitment: One morning per week to once a month
Minimum age: 13 for socializing, activities assistance; 18 for arts and crafts
