Born and raised in Israel, Yehudit moved to New York to pursue painting, where she received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts and continues to work and show her art. Having taught in Israeli high schools and summer camps, and having served as an Educational Officer in the Israel Defense Forces, Yehudit merged her love of teaching and her mastery as an artist, teaching at a Jewish arts camp called BIMA: The Berkshire Institute for Music and Art at Williams College, at Gan Shalom, and at various Jewish arts programs in Manhattan. Yehudit joined the CBE teaching staff in 2002, and has taught 6th grade and academy, led our "Rosh Hodesh- It's a Girl thing" groups, and most recently served as our Head Teacher. This year she takes a serious role in our YACHAD programming as our Lead Teacher. She is currently writing her thesis on destructive aggression in adolescents.

Haggar Leibovich moved to the United States from Israel five years ago to get her Masters degree in music at Indiana University, where she also taught undergraduate Hebrew. She moved to New York in 2005 and started working at Gan Shalom and at Beth Elohim (while being an opera singer on the side). This year, she will be YACHAD’s Hebrew Coordinator and the core teacher in the 6th grade —“Vatikim”(seniors). Vatikim will begin the year studying Jewish community as they focus on Jewish ethics, Behavior, Zionism, and Israeli communities. In her free time, Haggar enjoys corn, yoga, schnitzel, and friends.

Guy Rozenstrich, starting his third year at Beth Elohim, graduated with his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2003 and has taught at Gan Shalom. In 2005 He received his MA in Media studies and Film from the New School. He is YACHAD’s core faculty teacher for the 5th grade, or “Hadarim” (citrus tress). The main concentration for Hadarim this year will be the concept of Jewish home. How do we define home? Why do we need a home? How does a place become home? These 3 questions will be the roots for the entire year’s exploration. In his free time, Guy enjoys working on Jewelry at his store, Phoenix Roze.

Ben Youngerman, a 2004 History major from Wesleyan University, is YACHAD’s Multimedia Director and Core Teacher for the 4th Grade- Duda’im (Wild Plant). Ben is starting his 4th year at Beth Elohim. He also works in the Temple’s After School program and directs the Movin’ On summer camp. This year, Duda’im will experience what it is like in an Israeli school as they learn about Jewish cultureboth past and present. They will also explore major holidays through the Jewish calendar and study important Mitzvot. In his free time, Ben enjoys movie-making, basketball, and cooking.

Julie Meslin, a 2001 Theatre/English major from Lehigh University, is very happy to return to Beth Elohim, where she served last year as our Art Specialist. Prior to joining us, Julie studied set design, aspent a year in Jerusalem as a Dorot Fellow and taught Kindergarden at Hannah Senesh. Julie is the Core Teacher for 3rd grade, otherwise known as “Galim” (waves). To begin the year, Galim will study names and family origins as they focus on where Jews come from as individuals, as families, as a community and as a people. In her free time, Julie likes to run in prospect park, read and write poetry, draw, and do yoga.
