Examining scholarship  on popular Jewish culture ranging from cartoons of the  Yiddish press to American Jewish wrestlers, Portnoy  and Rabbi Bronstein will discuss why looking at the  "marginalia" of Jewish life, in and of itself an  interesting pastime, is also a necessary tool for  understanding the Jewish past and examining the  Jewish present
