MEMOIRS OF AN ANTI-SEMITE
By Gregor von
Rezzori
This collection of five short stories has
as its central character a man born into an aristocratic family during World War
I, a war that destroys the Austro-Hungarian Empire and displaces his family from
the perfect social context and comfort that they had previously enjoyed. As the
narrator-hero encounters Jews in various periods of his life and knows them as
friends, lovers, and ultimately his wife, he is continuously reevaluating his
relationship to Jews. Join us for a discussion of the book and of the
complexities of European attitudes toward Jews.
NOTE: This book is out of print but is
available from abebooks.com, alibris.com, and other internet
