Prayer Book and Modern Hebrew
Prayer Book Hebrew Rabbi Daniel Lehrman If you have a
basic familiarity with the Hebrew letters and vowels and you want to
move on to the next level of proficiency with the Hebrew of our
services, then this class is for you. While our main emphasis will be
on gaining ever more comfort with speaking, reading, and singing the
prayers and understanding them, we will also spend about a third of
each class exploring such topics as: Why so many names for God in
Judaism? Where did the Sh’ma come from? What is the significance of
Hebrew in Jewish mysticism? and other topics according to the special
interests of our class members. *********************** Modern Hebrew Haggar Leibovich This
class is based upon the classic Ulpan method, a model that makes the
challenge of learning a new language both satisfying and fun. Our goal
will be conducting the class entirely in Hebrew and students will speak
modern Hebrew in the first five minutes of the class. The grammatical
rules and conventions of this living language will come alive through
the spoken word.
