Franz Rosenzweig: Judaism & Modernity
Carole Gould

In 1920, Franz Rosenzweig declined an invitation to teach at the University of Berlin; instead, he opened the Lehrhaus, an institute for adult Jewish learning. His letter of refusal traces his personal struggle with Idealism and his decision to return to Judaism via the "new thinking" of Existentialism. Join us as we look at this great 20th-century Jewish philosopher's life and work. The course will provide a biographical and intellectual overview of Rosenzweig's work, and we will read selections from several of his important writings.

Tuesdays 7:30 - 9 pm Feb. 27, Mar. 6, 13.
Location: Temple House
