Pirke Avot with Rabbis Andy Bachman and Daniel Bronstein
This classic text from the first and second generation of rabbis at the dawn of the first millennium synthesized a Jewish tradition with a number of ideas drawn from Greek and Roman thought, codifying a post-Biblical Jewish theology. We will study the six chapters of Pirke Avot over a three-week period between Passover and Shavuot. Custom emphasizes the study of this text in the period between our celebration of freedom and our commemoration of the revelation of Torah, which is the subject of Pirke Avot's final chapter. This course is offered in English for students of all levels. Beginners are always welcome.
Thursdays, 7:30 - 9 pm, May 3, 10; 7-8 pm, May 17. Fee: $30. Drop-ins welcome ($10 per class).
