Egyptian Galleries Tour Print
Sunday, April 06 2008, 11:00am - 1:00pm
senwosret iii.jpgAt Passover, Jews around the world celebrate the exodus from Egypt. But what is the historical evidence of Jews and Hebrews living in ancient Egypt? And why does the Hebrew Bible both love and love to hate Egypt? Join us Sunday, April 6 at 11:00am as we take a walk back into history with CBE member Edward Bleiberg, Managing Curator for Egyptian, Classical and Ancient Middle Eastern Art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

The tour of the Egyptian galleries will focus on objects which might provide some answers to these questions. We’ll examine both works of art and historical documents in the collection which shed light on the complex relationship between ancient Jews and Egyptians. For example, Senwosret III, pictured here, might be the Pharaoh to whom Abraham introduced his "sister" Sarah.
