Congregation
Beth Elohim is proud to host Prayers for the Dead (Sunday,
November 23, 3pm in the Rotunda), a unique multi- cultural musical program as
part of the Brooklyn Arts Council’s year-long project bringing together
Brooklyn’s globally diverse community and family arts practices related to
mourning and remembrance.
The program features explanation and performance from Jewish, Buddhist,
Caribbean and European Catholic traditions. Persian Jewish singer and scholar
Galit Dardashti, monks from the Gold Street Monastery, Afro-Grenadian dancer
Dean Maitland and others join Rabbi Bachman, Cantor Leuchter and the CBE
Singers in this fascinating cross-cultural event.
BAC’s Days of the Dead series includes public performances, lecture-demos, and
symposia. Through its website and direct interviews, the Council is also
collecting stories and descriptions of mourning and remembrance practices from
the various communities in Brooklyn.
